Princess Diana got a fitting, if not entirely royal, welcome in Nepal on Tuesday, where she went for a private four-day visit - her first abroad since unloading Prince Charles. At Katmandu's Tribhuvan Airport, she was greeted by Crown Prince Dipendra, but only two government officials showed. Ceremonies were elaborate but brief. And there were no street decorations, which are reserved for state visits. Also, Diana's staying with British Ambassador Timothy George, as opposed to in the palace. "Her changed status made us think and rethink the protocol," a Nepalese official said, adding that his government denied her "top-level treatment" for fear of offending Charles. The princess checked in with the Nepal Red Cross and gave it a $264,000 grant from its Brit counterpart. She'll dine at the palace today with King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya.
"Cheers" barkeep Woody Harrelson, 31, and Laura Louie, 28, welcomed a 6 3/4-pound girl last Friday at the couple's LA home. The mother's a member of the actor's company Children at Play Productions. The new girl's tag - Denni Montana Harrelson.
Richard Mulligan, star of TV's "Empty Nest," and former porn queen Serina Robinson, 32, have filed for divorce after 10 months of wedded blitz. She accuses him of physical abuse. Mulligan, 60, is suing her for slander, calling his fourth wife's accusations "malicious, false, fabricated and defamatory."
Salman Rushdie was granted an uncontested divorce Tuesday by Britain's High Court from Marianne Wiggins. She left him six months after he went underground in 1989. Both 45, they were married the previous year.
It's a wrap for the movieland love story between Brad Pitt, 29 ("And a River Runs Through It," "Thelma and Louise"), and Juliette Lewis, 19 ("Cape Fear," "Husbands and Wives"). They both appear in the movie "Kalifornia," out this summer. Noted a Lewis spokeswoman: "They remain very dear friends."
