FERRUM STANDOUTS NAMED TO DIXIE CONFERENCE TEAM

Ferrum's Walter Webb and Quincy Quick were named to the Dixie Conference's All-Conference basketball team and their coach Bill Pullen was named the conference's coach of the year on Wednesday.

Quick, a sophomore guard, led the Panthers in scoring with 16.2 points per game. Senior forward Webb averaged 14 points per game for the conference's regular season champions, who finished 18-6 overall, 9-1 in the conference.

Ferrum, which was ranked throughout the season in the top five of the Division III South Region, lost 71-54 to North Carolina Wesleyan in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Pullen, an Emory & Henry graduate in his eighth year at Ferrum, has a career record of 112-98.

Steve Artis of Christopher Newport was named player of the year. His teammate James Boykins and Greensboro's Kevin Beard on the all-conference first team.

Ferrum senior Nikki Claiborne was named to the women's second team. She averaged 15.4 points and seven rebounds for the Panthers (9-15, 3-7).
