RELIGION BRIEFS

W. SIBLEY TOWNER, professor of Old Testament at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, will preach Sunday at the 11 a.m. service at Second Presbyterian Church, 214 Mountain Ave. S.W.

The professor, who is leading the annual Edmunds Lecture Series this year, also will speak at 9:45 a.m. on "The Christian Stake in the Near East."

\ THE FESTIVAL OF PURIM, which commemorates the deliverance of the ancient Jews by the heroism of Queen Esther, will be celebrated Saturday at Temple Emanuel and Beth Israel Synagogue.

This year's celebration will include a concert by the Klezmer Conservatory Band that night at 8 at Temple Emanuel, Brambleton Avenue at Persinger Road Southwest. A nursery will be provided. Call 342-3378 for more information.

\ FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 515 Third Street S.W., will start having two worship services with corresponding Sunday schools this Sunday. The first service and Sunday school will begin at 9, and the second service and Sunday school at 10:30 a.m.

The Rev. Charles G. Fuller, pastor, said the goal is to fill the worship center, which was occupied eight months ago, for both services. Fuller said the schedule has been arranged so that people of all ages can have both a full educational and worship experience and the extended session formerly needed for small children can be eliminated.

\ CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH has named Julia Goodman of Radford as its interim organist and director of the adult choir. She succeeds Katherine Reier, who recently left the staff after an eight-year tenure.

\ RALEIGH COURT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 1706 Grandin Road S.W., has scheduled a presentation, "The Inner World of Sexual Abuse Survivors," for Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Paul and Jeanne Ewing will lead the free presentation.

\ BONNIE CRABBS, director of Weekday School at Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, will retire at the end of the school year. She has been on the church staff for 11 years and plans to remain as a part-time teacher of the younger children.

There are 132 children enrolled in the school, which has 16 teachers and aides.

\ STEVE GREEN, nationally traveled Christian musician, will be at First Baptist Church on Third Street Southwest Sunday at 7 p.m. The $5 tickets are available at the Baptist Book Store.
