NORTH CROSS IN STATE SEMIFINALS
North Cross broke open a close game and uncharacteristically made its free throws in defeating Teagle Christian 82-73 in the Virginia Independent State Tournament quarterfinals at Bishop O'Connell School in Arlington.In the semifinals tonight, the Raiders (24-7) will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between Fishburne Military Academy and Trinity Episcopal.
At halftime, North Cross led 36-35, and neither team led by more than three points until the fourth quarter. With about three minutes remaining, Teagle Christian went ahead by four, then the Raiders took command with a 10-0 run that included six points by Montie Smith. North Cross center Mike Bryan scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, and the Raiders hit nine of 13 free throws in the quarter, finishing 20-for-26.
Smith had 20 points for North Cross, Marcus Cardwell added 15, and Aaron Marley had 13. Bryan had 17 rebounds, and Marley and Cardwell had seven assists apiece.
For Teagle Christian (28-5), Jermaine Johnson had 22, Chris Forbes had 17 and Jason Hall added 12. \
