DIVORCE ENTERS THE FAST-FOOD LANE

Florida businessman Larry Ballard says privacy is the main reason he created a national chain of 30 drive-through legal offices.

"We specialize in half-hour divorces and conduct some 800 a week," Ballard says. "Why should people go into a law office and spill the dirt about their relationship to some lawyer in his impersonal office when they come here and can do everything from the privacy of their own car?"

In June, Ballard plans to open another We the People outlet, this one in Detroit.

Pull up to the window, fill out a form and hand it back to the drive-through attendant. You'll get a notarized document, ready for delivery to the court. Price: $149. Or $99, if no children or property are involved.

You still have to pay the court a filing fee and go through the divorce hearing. But the initial legal work can be done from the comfort of your Cougar.
