MARYVILLE WOMEN SHUT DOWN ROANOKE 85-67

Freshman Jamie Parrott scored 25 of her 36 points in the second half Friday night to lead Maryville to an 85-67 victory over Roanoke College in the Division III women's basketball tournament.

Parrott fueled a 10-0 run in the second half that broke open a tight game and sent Maryville (23-2) into the second round of the national playoffs.

Roanoke (21-6) led by eight points (25-17) with 8:36 left in the first half on a basket by Kristie Workman, but the Scots went on an 11-0 spurt over the next 2 1/2 minutes to take the lead.

The Maroons forged a 38-38 tie on a layup by Susan Brown before Maryville scored the final six points of the first half to lead 44-38 at the break.

Roanoke stayed close through the first six minutes of the second half, trailing 49-48 after a basket by Deana Blank, but the Scots seized command by scoring the next 10 points. Parrott had seven of her team's points as Maryville took a 59-48 lead with 10:41 left to play.

Sophomore Cammi Beason, a former Glenvar standout, led the Maroons with 14 points. Workman added 13 points. \
