OBIT GROVE, SUSIE HORTONA

GROVE, Susie Horton, 87, of Max Meadows, died Friday, March 5, 1993 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born in Carroll County, Va., the daughter of the late Michael M. and Octavia DeHaven Horton. She was a retired school teacher, having served 30 years with the Wythe County School System. She was a member of the Max Meadows United Methodist Church; the Bethel Home Extension Club; the Wythe County Historical Society; (past president) the Max Meadows Senior Citizens; the Wythe County Retired Teachers Association; (life member) Virginia P.T.A.; United Methodist Women; (life member) V.E.A.; N.E.A.; Teachers District I Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Grove. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin W. Sr. and Maxine Grove of Wytheville, Robert H. and Opal Grove of Black Mountain, N.C. Four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday or at the residence at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Max Meadows United Methodist Church Building Fund. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
