PLAYERS CHOSE SALEM BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST

IN RESPONSE to Dontav Byte's Feb. 24 letter to the editor ("Enough already about the game") regarding the recruiting of Salem football players:

The answers to this question are obvious if only people will open their eyes to see. To transfer to Salem, I understand the parents of the player would either have to move to the city, or pay the required tuition to attend Salem schools.

The answer to why players want to come to Salem is even more obvious. Along with high academic standards and community support second to none, Salem has the best practice facilities, practice fields, weight rooms and conditioning facilities, playing fields and stadiums in the valley and probably the state, not to mention the envy of many Division II and III and some Division I colleges. There is also an abundance of college scouts frequenting Salem's stadium on Friday nights. Is it any wonder why the few transfers Salem has had over the years chose to do so, and with full blessing of their parents? RICK ATKINS SALEM
