ROZIER HEADLINES ALL-METRO TEAM
Louisville center Clifford Rozier capped a season of influence on the Metro Conference on Tuesday when he was the only unanimous first-team all-conference selection, the league announced.Rozier, teammate Dwayne Morton, Tulane's Anthony Reed, Virginia Commonwealth's Kendrick Warren and Southern Mississippi's Bernard Haslett were selected to the first team.
Fifty-one ballots were cast by members of the Metro Conference Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association; players received two points for a first-team vote and one for a second-team vote.
Rozier had 102 points; Morton was a near-unanimous choice with 100 points. Reed had 97 points, Warren 86 and Haslett 71.
Rozier, a 6-foot-9 sophomore transfer from North Carolina, is averaging 15.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. He has had 16 double-doubles (points and rebounds), and he tied the Metro Conference record for rebounds in a game with 22 against South Florida. He helped Louisville win the Metro's regular-season title.
Morton, a 6-6 junior forward, averages 16.4 points per game and leads the nation in 3-point percentage (.544). Reed, a 6-9 senior, averages 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds. Warren, a 6-8 junior who was injured after playing 19 games, averaged 17.6 points and 9.1 rebounds. Haslett, a 6-3 junior, is the Metro's scoring leader at 18.9 per game.
Second-team selections were Southern Mississippi forward Glen Whisby (59 points in the voting), Louisville swingman Greg Minor (50), VCU center Sherron Mills (40), VCU guard Kenny Harris (27) and UNC Charlotte forward Jarvis Lang (27).
