Radford center Tammy Crown won player of the year honors in the Big South Conference and was part of the all-conference women's team announced by the league Wednesday.The senior was led the Big South in free-throw percentage with .884; is fourth in scoring, with 15.1; second in field-goal percentage, at .580; third in rebounds with 8.9 and 10th in blocked shots, with 0.5.
Other members of the all-conference team were: guard Missy Quille, a junior at Maryland Baltimore County; center Vickie Henson, a junior from North Carolina-Greensboro; forward Shannan Wilkey, a junior from Radford; and forward Danielle Barry, a junior from Towson State.
The second team consisted of: guard Shonta Tabourn, a senior at Campbell; forward Melissa Herbert, a junior from Coastal Carolina; center Kim Lewis, a junior from Coastal Carolina; guard Anna Barrington, a sophomore at Liberty; and guard Micky Haywood, a senior at UNC Greensboro.
Rookie of the year was Chrissy Kelly of Charleston Southern, and coaches of the year were Rick Reeves of Liberty and Lynne Agee of UNC Greensboro.
Notes\ EVANS HONORED: Virginia senior Dena Evans received another postseason honor when she was selected to the GTE Academic Women's All-America first team.
Evans, most valuable player in the ACC Tournament, was joined by teammate Heather Burge, a second-team selection on the academic All-America team. Burge was the ACC player of the year.
Nebraska's Karen Jennings, the Big-Eight Player of the Year, was voted academic player of the year. She and Evans were joined on the first team by Erin Kenneally of Syracuse, Jodi Urich of St. Bonaventure, and Julie Von Dieliongen of Butler.
