FLOYD BASKETBALL CONTEST MARCH 27
The J.C. Waters Memorial Hotshot-Basketball Competition will be held March 27 in the Floyd County High School Gymnasium, beginning at noon.
The competition will be divided into six groups with separate divisions for male and female entrants.
The divisions are beginners (kindergarten and first grade), advanced beginners (grades 2-3), primary (4-5), intermediate (6-7), junior varsity (8-10), varsity (11-12) and adult (ages 18 and up).
The younger three divisions will have free throw and speed shooting events.
The older three divisions are expected to start between 2-2:30 p.m. and will also feature a hot shot competition.
The entry fee is a minimum donation of $1 to the J.C. Waters III Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Registration will begin at 11:15 a.m.
Advanced registration can be done by mailing an entry form and donation to the J.C. Waters Scholarship Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 842, Floyd, Va. 24091, or through any school office in Floyd County.
Following the event, there will be a sports memorabilia auction in the high school gym, beginning at 6 p.m.
Items have been received from NFL, NBA, major league baseball teams and NASCAR drivers.
The auction will include autographed items from Richard Petty, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neil, Joe Montana, John Elway, and Nolan Ryan.
