PANEL: ELEANOR ROOSEVELT MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMAN

Eleanor Roosevelt heads a list of the 10 most influential American women of the 20th century, according to a survey of 100 college professors.

The civil rights activist and wife of President Franklin Roosevelt dominated the voting that covered women in such fields as art, film, industry, law, medicine and education, said survey directors Thomas Kelly and Douglas Lonnstrom.

Runner-up was social worker Jane Addams, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931.

The rest of the top 10, in order, were: civil rights activist Rosa Parks, Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, anthropologist Margaret Mead, feminist and writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, author Betty Friedan, former U.S. Rep. Barbara Jordan, Helen Keller, and social reformer Alice Paul. - Associated Press
