WALL OF HONOR DONATIONS NEEDED

Nearly $34,000 has been donated toward a Wall of Honor to be erected at Withers Park in downtown Wytheville in time for a May 30 dedication ceremony.

Names engraved on the wall are of Wythe County citizens who died in the service of their country since World War I, sports figures named to the county's Sports Hall of Fame over the years, and civic leaders.

Wall of Honor Committee Chairman Thomas A. Bralley Jr. said donations toward the project are only $1,080 short of their $35,000 goal.

But the cost is now estimated at about $38,000, so any amount that comes in above the goal will go toward completing the project.

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors put $12,750 into the monuments, the largest single donation.

Donors who give more than $100 will have their names engraved on the steps around the monuments. Those who give more than $1,000 will have their names engraved on the monument floor. But those donations would have to be made soon for the engraving to be done, since the project is nearing completion.

Donations can be made at the municipal building or mailed to: Town of Wytheville, P.O. Drawer 533, Wytheville, Va. 24382, with checks made payable to the town for the Wall of Honor.
