TIME TO EDUCATE STUDENTS AND FANS
This letter is in response to Joyce Wess' (Richlands) sports mailbag letter on Feb. 28.I have never before been so outraged as I was after reading Ms. Wess' letter. She stated that the only way to stop racism is by changing the color of our skin and that prejudice only exists when racial slurs are used toward black people.
Ms. Wess, you are wrong. Racism exists because of ignorance, and it will only be resolved by educating our youth to believe everyone is created equal and should be treated as such. Ms. Wess, I challenge you to start "educating" yourself and your community to help alleviate the injustices that result from prejudice.
Maybe, a good place for you to start would be with your football program and its fans. LEIGH SMITH SALEM
