THE PEOPLE COLUMN
She didn't advocate killing all the lawyers, but U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor did say they better mind their manners."Obnoxious" is how half the lawyers in one recent survey described their colleagues, O'Connor said during a lecture Friday at the University of Houston.
"Lawyers are compared frequently and unfavorably, I might add, with skunks and snakes and sharks," O'Connor said.
O'Connor also noted that 43 percent of men and 55 percent of women surveyed were dissatisfied with their law careers.
"More civility . . . can only help increase the pleasure lawyers find in practicing," O'Connor said. "We think of our dealings with other lawyers as war. And it seems we act accordingly."
