DOMINION DIRECTORS NOMINATED TO BOARD OF FIRST UNION CORP.
Three former directors of Roanoke's Dominion Bankshares Corp. - Warner Dalhouse, James McComas and Brenton S. Halsey - have been nominated to the board of First Union Corp.The three also are directors of First Union Corp. of Virginia, the subsidiary that the Charlotte, N.C., bank holding company formed when it acquired Dominion this month.
The merger agreement between the banks called for election of three Dominion directors to the board of the parent company. First Union shareholders will vote on the nominations at their annual meeting in April.
Dalhouse was chairman of Dominion Bankshares and now is chairman of First Union Corp. of Virginia, based in Roanoke.
McComas has been president of Virginia Tech since 1988. Before moving to Blacksburg, he headed the University of Toledo and Mississippi State University.
Halsey was a founder of James River Corp. of Richmond, a paper products manufacturer making packaging for food and other consumer goods. He recently retired as its chairman.
