PARTIAL ROOF COLLAPSE CLOSES FURNITURE STORE
The Stanley Furniture Outlet Store at Towne Square Shopping Center will have to be temporarily relocated after part of its roof collapsed as a result of the weekend snowstorm.Jim Oakley, center manager, said that around midnight Sunday snow from the taller roof of Sam's Wholesale Club next door slid onto the Stanley roof, caving in a section and breaking windows in the outlet store.
He said he hopes to have Stanley reopened in a couple of days in quarters next to the Rack Room store in another section of the mall. Sam's Clothing and Pic 'n' Pay Shoes, next to Stanley, also were closed Monday as a precaution, as were several other stores in the center.
H&R Block and I Can't Believe It's Yogurt were shut because Oakley feared snow from the taller Phar-Mor building next door would cause the same sort of roof collapse as at Stanley. Cloth World also was closed "as a precaution" because its ceiling was wet.
Oakley said all the stores except Stanley would be allowed to reopen today. . He said the buildings were given a clean bill Monday by inspectors from the city's Building Department and the fire marshal's office.
Donnie Clark of Stanleytown, manager of the Roanoke outlet store, said he hopes to get into the store today to assess damage.
