OBIT OLIVER, FRANK LOVITT
OLIVER, Frank Lovitt, ("Bucket"), 76, of Roanoke, died suddenly Saturday March, 13, 1993. He is survived by his wife, Frances Long Oliver of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Gail Oliver Palmer and Philip Gendron Palmer, Sumter, S.C.; and grandson, Austin Langley Palmer, Sumter, S. C.; stepsons, James Wilson Long Jr. and Samuel Byron Long, Roanoke; stepgrandchildren, Kathryn Holland Long, Margaret Hamlet Long, James Wilson Long III, Byron Randolph Long, Anna Kathleen Long and Richard Samuel Long, all of Roanoke; three brothers, Dr. Keith Millner Oliver, Leesburg, William Washington Oliver Jr., Virginia Beach, Marcus Lane Oliver, Blacksburg. He was the son of the late William Washington Oliver III and Alice Millner Oliver, Virginia Beach. He was predeceased in death by his first wife, Julia Day Vinyard Oliver and brothers, Stanley Eugene Oliver, Carroll Gordon Oliver and sister, Alice Oliver Culley. He was a 1939 graduate of Virginia Tech where he was a lettered athlete in football and boxing. He was also an outstanding student who received many honors including election to: Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Zeta, both national honorary fraternities. He was listed in Who's Who's Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, 1938-39. He served in the United States Army, retiring as Lt. Col. in 1945 when he moved to Roanoke. He was a store manager for Lindsey-Robinson & Company for a number of years. He then became president and general manager of Densmore Farms from which he retired in 1984. He has been active in both state and national feed and poultry organizations through the years. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Burial Park at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday followed by a memorial service at Second Presbyterian Church 11 a.m. Wednesday officiated by Dr. William R. Klein. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Second Presbyterian Church or your favorite charity. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.
