OBIT ROSS, AMERICA ANN CHILDRESS

ROSS, America Ann Childress, 79, of Roanoke, died Friday, March 12, 1993. She was born to the late David and Rosa Lynch on January 5, 1914. A member of the Northeast congregation of the Jehovah Witnesses; she retired in 1976, after 10 years of service with the Roanoke City School Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, General Massie Ross Sr. She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Alma Ann (Jimmie) West, Tucson, Arizona, Rosa (Lincoln) Barrett, Roanoke, Wanda (Charlie) Harper, Roanoke, Jacqueline (Walter) Barlow, Denver, Colorado, Peola (Wayne) Thompson, Hampton, and Trevor (James) Saunders, Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, General Massie Ross Jr. (Cynthia), Roanoke; one sister, Julia Poe, Roanoke; one brother, William Harvey Childress, Germany; one sister-in-law, Edith Burch, Vinton; two brothers-in-law, Jim Otey, Vinton, John Horton, Columbus, Ohio; twenty grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and a devoted cousin, Hessie Stone, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 1993 at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Friends may call from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1993 at the funeral home.
