OBIT MCCOY, ALVIN LEWIS

McCOY, Alvin Lewis, 56, of McCoy, died Monday, March 15, 1993, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. McCoy was born in McCoy on December 2, 1936 and was preceded in death by his father, Hobert McKinley McCoy. He was a supervisor in the carpenter shop at VA Tech with more than 30 years of service, in 1989 he received a 25 year service award. He was a charter member of the Longshop-McCoy Volunteer Fire and First Aid Department, serving as 1st and 2nd lt., captain in 1972 and chief from 1973 to 1976. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Caldwell McCoy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey "Jeff" Lewis and Tina D. McCoy, Gregory "Greg" Alvin and Robin H. McCoy; two grandchildren, Danielle McCoy and Allen Lewis McCoy, all of McCoy; his mother, Mary Jane Price McCoy, McCoy; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Rae and Rufus Spence, Tazewell; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Melita McCoy, John Allen and Frances W. McCoy, all of McCoy; two special nieces, Darlene McCoy Wood, Christiansburg, Vanessa McCoy Collins, Riner; several other nieces and nephews; special friends, John and Joyce Smith, Pete and Sandra Boone; and many other friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18, at 3:30 p.m. at Community Christian Church, McCoy. Mr. Bobby E. Fuller and the Rev. Gordon Lee will officiate. Interment will follow in the McCoy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McCoy Family Cemetery, P.O. Box 383, McCoy, Va. 24111 or Longshop-McCoy First Aid, Box 489, McCoy, Va. 24111. The body will be taken to the church Wednesday at 10 a.m., where friends may call after noon. The family will be at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. to receive friends. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
