OBIT OAKES, GLENN EUGENE
OAKES, Glenn Eugene, 68, of Roanoke, died Sunday, March 14, 1993 in
Birmingham, Ala. He was born in Marion, Va. on June 11, 1924. He was retired
after 31 years of service from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He
was a member of Salem Baptist Church and president of the Berean Men's Bible
Class. He was a World War II veteran and a volunteer at the Veterans
Administration Hospital in Salem. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Virginia (Jerri) Anderson Oakes. Survivors are two daughters, Barbara Oakes
Chenault of Radford, Lynette Oakes Howard of Birmingham, Ala.; son, Michael E.
Oakes of Birmingham, Ala.; also surviving is a brother, Thomas J. Oakes of
Roanoke; granddaughter, L. Jill Bain of Bristol, Tenn.; two sons-in-law, H.
Lynn Chenault of Radford, Larry L. Howard of Birmingham, Ala. Funeral services
will be conducted at noon Saturday, March 20, 1993, at the John M. Oakey & Son
Funeral Home Chapel in Salem. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 19, 1993. In lieu of flowers
donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church or the American Heart
Association. Arrangements are being handled by the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral
Home, Salem.
