OBIT KESSINGER, JESSIE COOK
KESSINGER, Jessie Cook, 93, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, March 17, 1993,
at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mrs. Kessinger was born in West Virginia on
March 21, 1899 to the late Erastus E. and Caroline Harmon Cook. She attended
State Normal and Industrial School for Woman in Radford and later taught
school for several years. She was a Gray Lady at the Veterans Administration
and also worked with the Red Cross bloodmobile. Mrs. Kessinger was a member of
Blacksburg Christian Church, where she played the organ and taught a Sunday
school class. She was a 62 year member and Past Matron of Ingles Chapter #96
Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Kessinger was the first recipient of a Grand
Representation Commission in Ingles Chapter. She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Lois K. Hamlett. Surviving are her husband, Stanley "Kitty" H.
Kessinger; two daughters, Thelmagene K. Lasus, Round Rock Texas, Frances K.
Reed, Roanoke; one brother, Phillip Z. Cook, Newport; eight grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, at
2 p.m. at Blacksburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The Rev. Johnny
Loughridge will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Chapter of Virginia Endowment
Fund O.E.S., P. O. Box 6633, Richmond, Va. 23230, or the Memorial Fund of
Blacksburg Christian Church, 240 Watson Avenue, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. Ingles
Chapter Order of Eastern Star will conduct a service Thursday at 7 p.m.,
following the family will receive friends until 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
