NationsBank to buy major options firmCHARLOTTE, N.C. - NationsBank said Wednesday it will acquire Chicago Research and Trading Group Ltd., one of the world's largest options and trading firms.
The purchase will be complete in three months, subject to regulatory approvals.
Chicago Research and Trading Group, founded in 1977, employs 750 and has $250 million in capital. It has offices in New York; San Francisco; Philadelphia; Ridgefield, Conn.; London; Tokyo; Singapore; Frankfurt; and Osaka, Japan. - Associated Press
\ GM doesn't stint in shredding probe
DETROIT - GM has hired former FBI and CIA Director William Webster to check out the thoroughness of its investigation into charges that documents pertaining to allegedly fire-prone pickup trucks were shredded.
General Motors Co. spokesman William O'Neill said Wednesday that Webster has agreed to conduct an independent investigation, although he will work with GM's legal department.
Consumer groups last month asked the Justice Department to look into their allegation that documents pertaining to the trucks had been shredded by GM.
Webster directed the FBI from 1978 to 1987, then directed the Central Intelligence Agency from 1987 until 1991. He is a former federal judge. - Associated Press
