A MALE THING
Here's how to tell a "regular guy" from other men:He favors comfort over style. Jeans, flannel shirts, sneakers, baseball caps. No leather pants or Italian loafers. No berets. Nothing with labels on the outside.
His transportation is practical, often featuring four-wheel-drive. Nothing European, and nothing with a phone in it.
There's a Timex on his wrist, not a Rolex.
He doesn't "do" lunch; he eats it, and it doesn't include quiche. Give him a good burger - beef, not a soybean concoction - with beer or a soft drink to wash it down. Keep the mineral water.
When it's time for a haircut, he goes to a barber. Not a stylist.
His favorite sports require protective gear, though basketball is OK because it at least threatens harm. Forget tennis, and don't even think about soccer.
The foregoing is from Aqua Velva, which is conducting its third annual nationwide search for the king of the regular guys (call 212-704-8162 for the rules). Among other prizes, the winner gets a trip for two to the 1993 baseball All-Star Game.
One more thing. No cologne. Regular guys prefer after-shaves. Like Aqua Velva.
Surprise.
