STATE HOUSING AGENCY MOST ACTIVE IN NATION

The Virginia Housing Development Authority financed more homes in 1992 for poor, first-time buyers than in any other state housing financing agency in the country.

The agency cited a survey produced by the National Council of State Housing Agencies that showed the Virginia agency financed 4,885 homes during the year. The second-place state, Wisconsin, financed 4,537 homes.

The average purchase price of homes financed by the Virginia agency was $73,301. The average family income of borrowers was $30,748.
