OBIT-JOHNSTON, ARAMINTA HALE
JOHNSTON, Araminta Hale, 67, of Narrows, died Wednesday afternoon in a
Roanoke hospital. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born in Narrows
on June 14, 1925 and was the daughter of the late William Curtis and Anna Lee
Ferrell Hale. She was employed as a clerk with the Giles County Department of
Social Services at the time of her death and was a member of the Riverview
Baptist Church in Ripplemead, Va. She was a Sunday school teacher and pianist
in the church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James
M. (Gabby) Johnston and a son, Richard Lee Johnston, and a daughter, Patty
Johnston. She is survived by her son, James W. Johnston Jr. of Narrows; a half
brother, Woodrow Earl Leftwich, Hinton, W.Va.; a sister, Betty hale Spangler,
Galax, Va.; three half sisters, Mrs. Gladys Farrow and Miss Andres Hale, both
of New Market, Va., Mrs. Louise Poling, Clarksburg, W.Va.; special friends,
Mildred and Jerry Carroll, Vinton, Va.; two grandchildren, Bridget Nicole
Johnston and Benjamine Lee Johnston, both of Narrows. Funeral services will be
held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, Va.,
with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn
Burial Park, Pearisburg, Va. The remains will be moved from Riffe's Funeral
Service in Narrows Friday afternoon to the Riverview Baptist Church where the
family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Pallbearers will be friends of
the family and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Giles Ambulance
Service and the Narrows Fire Department. The family requests that flowers be
omitted and contributions be made to the Building Fund, Riverview Baptist
Church, P. O. Box 204, Ripplemead, Va. 24150.
