OBIT-WIMMER, JAMES RANDAL

WIMMER, James Randal, 57, C.P.O., U.S. Navy retired, of 105 North Street, Rich Creek, died Wednesday, March 17, 1993 at his home. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on September 16, 1935 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Wimmer, Narrows. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. He served in both the Korean War and during the Vietnam Conflict. He was retired from the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows, and was a member of Intermont Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rich Creek. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Betty Anderson Wimmer; a son, Ensign James Randal Wimmer Jr. (graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy), U.S.S. Portland, stationed at Virginia Beach; six daughters, Deborah W. Locke, Warrington, Cynthia W. Muse, Virginia Beach, Teresa W. Guynn, Rich Creek, Angela W. Vaught, Eggleston, Melanie W. Lee, Houston, Texas, Sylvia M. Wimmer, Blacksburg; two brothers, Robert Wimmer, Winston-Salem, N.C., Thomas Wimmer, Salisbury, N.C.; six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rich Creek with Rev. Alan Wilder officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with full military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy personnel and members of the V.F.W. Post #6000 of Narrows. The family will receive their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by Intermont Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M. at 7 p.m. Friday.
