WOMEN ACCUSE MAJOR LAW FIRM OF HARASSMENT
One current and two former female employees of the McGuire Woods Battle & Boothe, one of the state's largest law firms, have filed sexual harassment complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.Neither Robert L. Burrus Jr., chairman of the law firm's executive committee, nor the women's attorney would discuss the specifics. They said only that the women alleged they were subjected to an offensive atmosphere in the area where they worked.
Under EEOC procedures, the commission can reject the complaint, encourage the parties to reach an agreement after ruling that misconduct has occurred, or refer the matter to the U.S. Justice Department if it thinks a substantial violation or issue is involved.
If the Justice Department does not pursue the complaint or the commission finds no basis for it, the complainant can file suit in U.S. District Court. - Associated Press
