UVA MEN, WOMEN WIN IN LACROSSE
Virginia's nationally ranked men's and women's lacrosse teams earned victories over other ranked teams Saturday in Charlottesville.Tim Whiteley scored two goals and added two assists as the fifth-ranked UVa men outlasted No. 12 Massachusetts 10-9 at Scott Stadium. The Cavaliers (4-1) trailed 9-7 into the fourth quarter, but Whiteley scored a goal and assisted on two others in the first 8:32 of the quarter to put Virginia ahead 10-9. Massachusetts was playing its opener.
UVa attackman Kevin Pehlke scored twice, tying him for the school's career lead in goals scored with Chase Monroe at 116.
The Cavalier women, ranked third nationally, blew out fourth-ranked Princeton 15-7 as Erin Stewart scored four goals, and Kelly Doddona and Kelly Cowan had three apiece. Anna Yates had two goals and three assists.

At Homewood Field in Baltimore, Rebecca Savage scored the first of her four goals 15 seconds into the game and unranked Johns Hopkins went on to a 12-6 upset victory over Roanoke College, the No. 3-ranked team in Division III women's lacrosse. Roanoke (0-1) never led despite getting four goals from Jennifer Shimrak. Goaltender Kathleen Ostar had 22 saves, but the Maroons were outshot 37-21. Johns Hopkins is 2-0.
