OVERALL, PEOPLE WHO ARE DETERMINED TO GO BACK TO WORK DO SO EVENTUALLY
Bob Freiberger has been there and back.In 1986, after 10 years with the company, he was told his job as manager of night-vision manufacturing at ITT in Roanoke was being eliminated. He was stunned.
"It didn't dawn on me that I could be laid off," he says.
He found another job fairly quickly, but the process of looking for work fascinated him more than his new position as president of an aircraft parts manufacturing company.
Four years ago he left that outfit and started his own job placement business in Charlotte, N.C. Mostly, he consults for corporations and businesses rather than individuals. Lately he has been in Roanoke, dispensing job search advice to peole laid off from ITT.
Freiberger spoke at two recent sessions of the Employment Alternatives and Techniques support group held each Wednesday night at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Roanoke. He dispensed with the emotional side of job loss and concentrated on the practical.
