CLERIC LINKED TO BLAST FACES RETRIAL IN EGYPT

Egypt on Sunday ordered the retrial of the radical Muslim cleric whose followers have been linked to the World Trade Center bombing and attacks on foreign tourists in Egypt.

Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman and 46 of his followers reportedly will be retried April 6 on charges of illegal possession of weapons, attempting to kill a police officer and assault on individuals and public property. They were acquitted of the charges in 1990.

Two men who worship at the New Jersey mosque where Abdel-Rahman preaches have been arrested in connection with the Feb. 26 bombing of the World Trade Center in New York, in which six people died and more than 1,000 were injured. A third is being sought for questioning.

A U.S. immigration judge has ordered Abdel-Rahman expelled on the grounds that when applying for a residency permit he failed to reveal he is a polygamist and had been convicted of falsifying a check. He plans to appeal.
