UVA PULLS AWAY FROM TECH IN TOURNAMENT
The ninth-ranked Virginia golfers shot a 289 for a record 877 tournament total and the victory at the Sheraton/Emerald Collegiate Invitational in New Bern, N.C.Virginia Tech, playing with four players after senior captain Clayton Friend was injured Saturday, shot a 305 for a 908 total and second place in the 18-team field.
UVa's Dan Ladd shot a 72 for a 218 total and individual medalist honors. Tech was led by Brian Sharp, who had a 76 for a 224 total and sixth place.
