ROANOKE'S SCOTT GAINS DIVISION III ALL-AMERICA HONOR
Roanoke College junior Hilliary Scott has been selected to the 1993 Kodak NABC Division III All-America second team. The first and second teams, selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, were announced Monday.Scott, from Lynchburg, is Roanoke's first men's basketball All-American since Reggie Thomas in 1985.
The 6-foot-5 forward led the Maroons in four categories in the 1992-93 season. He averaged 20.5 points per game, had 51 steals and hit 56 percent of his field-goal attempts, including 42.4 percent from 3-point range. The All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference player also averaged 7.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
"Hilliary is very deserving of this high honor," said Roanoke coach Page Moir. "His basketball ability speaks for itself, but he is equally as impressive off the court."
Scott, who surpassed the 1,000-points mark as a junior, helped guide the Maroons to their best finish in eight years. Roanoke placed second in the ODAC and finished 20-6. He was the leading vote-getter in the South Region, and he joins Frankie Allen, Jay Piccola, Gerald Holmes and Thomas as Roanoke's underclassmen All-Americans.
