Storm-damaged communities along the New Jersey shore are getting a little help from Jon Bon Jovi, Connie Chung and other celebrity friends.E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici signed T-shirts for "Operation Restore The Shore" on Monday in Ocean Township, N.J. Proceeds from the $17 shirts will be distributed among about 26 towns in Monmouth County that suffered damage during a powerful Dec. 11 storm.
The E Street band was named for the street in the beachfront town of Belmar where the band used to practice with its former boss, Bruce Springsteen.
Other celebrities who live in the area have also signed T-shirts, including Chung and husband Maury Povich, Kathie Lee Gifford and Regis Philbin, said one of the organizers.
Bon Jovi, of nearby Rumson, taped a 15-second radio message urging residents to support the fund-raising drive, which runs through May.
A movie version of the story of David Koresh and the Branch Davidians will be taped in April and broadcast on NBC in May, said Ken Kaufman of Patchett-Kaufman Entertainment, whether or not the standoff in Waco has ended.
The movie, which will be part of a series on "the tragic deaths of law enforcement persons" said Kaufman, "most likely will end at sunset February 28," when the siege began and four federal agents were killed.
The movie will be shot on the grounds of the Bethesda Boys Ranch near Mounts, Okla., where a mock-up of the compound is under construction. Director Dick Lowry said he had been watching news reports of the siege on TV five days after it started, realized that the Waco landscape looked "a lot like Oklahoma," and immediately enlisted the cooperation of the Oklahoma Film Commission.
