FATHERLY CHORES FEW, ALLEN TESTIFIES
So, what kind of daddy has Woody Allen been to the three children whose custody he's grappling for?Monday, he described how he set his alarm for 5 each morning so he could cross Central Park to his ex-lover Mia Farrow's apartment and be there when the children awoke.
But Tuesday, Farrow's attorney lobbed a long list of parental activities at the famous filmmaker. Had Dylan, Satchel or Moses ever spent a night at his apartment? No, Allen said. Had he ever bathed any of them or taken them for a haircut? Did he know who their dentist was or which doctor prescribed Moses' eyeglasses? Had he attended parent-teacher conferences at Satchel's nursery school? No, no, no.
Had he ever dressed Dylan? The director considered. "I could've put her socks on."
As attorney Eleanor Alter demanded specifics, Allen was unable to supply the name of a single one of the children's friends, though he said he had met them, and could not recall Moses' teachers' names or his grades.
For good measure, Alter entered into evidence a coolly furious letter from Moses, which the boy handed to Allen after learning of his affair with Soon-Yi Previn, Moses' half sister. "You have done a horrible, unforgivable, needy, ugly, stupid thing," the 14-year-old wrote. If Allen persisted in going to court, he added, "I hope you get so humiliated that you commit suicide."
