SALEM BUCS LOSE EXHIBITION 4-0

Manager Scott Little didn't see much to be happy about in the Salem Buccaneers' 4-0 loss to Port Charlotte of the Class A Florida State League.

Rangers pitchers held the Carolina League's Bucs to three hits, but Little said first baseman Michael Brown swung the bat well and is a virtual certainty to make the team.

The Bucs' likely No. 1 catcher, Angelo Encarnacion, was missed with a sore arm and will be out of action for "four or five more days," Little said. In Encarnacion's stead, Dave Mays yielded six stolen bases in six innings, and Tim Marx surrendered another in the final two innings.

Right-hander Kevin Rychel, a pitcher on last year's Bucs team, had the best day on the mound, allowing no runs and two hits in three innings and striking out three. - Staff report
