DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR REPONSE TO VMI
The U.S. Justice Department will have an extra month to respond to Virginia Military Institute's petition that lawyers be allowed to defend the school's all-male tradition before the U.S. Supreme Court. The Justice Department, which asked to have Wednesday's deadline extended a month, now will have until April 23 to file its response, according to the clerk's office in the high court.
VMI, one of two single-sex, state-supported schools in the country, filed a petition in January asking the court to determine the constitutionality of its admissions policy.
