WILLIAMSBURG NOTES INCREASE IN TOURISM
The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation plans to build its 1993 tourist season on regional marketing efforts that already have produced the best January attendance in its history, officials say.Richard A. Schreiber, the foundation's vice president of marketing and products, talked strategy with the City Council on Tuesday and asked for $600,000 from the city for Colonial Williamsburg's advertising program.
Colonial Williamsburg, which will spend $5.5 million on marketing this year, has been battling a slide in attendance since 1988.
But the restored colonial village showed a 44.8 percent jump in January attendance over the same month last year, said Randall Foskey, director of the admissions marketing department.
January normally accounts for only 2 percent of Colonial Williamsburg's annual business, he said.
