UVA RAISES TUITION 3RD STRAIGHT YEAR

Students at the University of Virginia will see tuition go up for the third consecutive year.

In-state undergraduate tuition for 1993-94 will rise 11.8 percent to $4,350 a year, while out-of-state tuition will rise 13.2 percent to $12,254, Budget Director Colette Capone said.

The law school will raise its in-state tuition by 22.2 percent to $7,542; out-of-state tuition will increase 16.2 percent to $15,560. The Darden Business School will increase in-state tuition 26.5 percent to $8,600; out-of-state tuition will rise 12.9 percent to $16,000.

Robert Butcher, chairman of the Board of Visitors Finance Committee, said Wednesday that if the university continues to lack state support and private gifts, "We're going to be back here every year doing this." - Associated Press
