TECH ATHLETE FINALIST FOR TOP SCHOLARSHIP

Virginia Tech volleyball standout Lisa Pikalek has been named one of six finalists for the two 1993 Walter Byers Scholarships, awarded by the NCAA. The postgraduate scholarships, worth $10,000 each, are named in honor of the former NCAA Chairman. Pikalek will be flown to St. Louis this weekend for a final interview.

Scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female candidate next week. The candidates must be collegiate athletes and graduate school candidates with at least a 3.5 grade-point average. Pikalek, who has a 3.96 GPA in psychology and sociology, finished her career sixth on the all-time NCAA kills list. Her jersey was retired by Tech.
