CRASH FATALLY INJURES WOMAN, 83
A Blacksburg woman was fatally injured Wednesday when she drove her car on the wrong side of the Interstate near Radford and collided with another car, state police said.Mary V. Slusher, 83, of Grissom Lane was pronounced dead at Roanoke Memorial Hospital at about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, about five hours after the wreck.
Police said Slusher was driving north in a southbound lane about two miles north of the Virginia 177 intersection when her car collided head-on with a southbound car.
Tammy L. Newberry of Sword's Creek, who is in her mid-20s, had pulled out from behind a tractor-trailer into the passing lane when she saw Slusher's vehicle approaching, but was unable to avoid the collision. Newberry was treated and released at Radford Community Hospital.
A passenger in Slusher's car, Clarice Pritchard, 87, was listed in stable condition at the Radford Hospital.
