OBIT-HENRY, JAMES EDWARD

HENRY, James Edward, 66, of Colonial Heights, died March 24, 1993 in MCV Hospital, Richmond, Va. Mr. Henry was born in Roanoke, graduated with his M.S. in Education from the University of Virginia, and earned his M.S. in Business Administration at the University of Richmond. While he was chairman of the deacons of First Baptist Church, he was instrumental in the founding of the Petersburg Public Forum of which he was the moderator at the time of his death. He retired as education advisor, U.S. Army Quartermasters School, Ft. Lee, Va., and was a volunteer and chairman of the board of directors of CONTACT International. He was a member and a president of the Rotary Club of Colonial Heights, a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, and secretary of District 760 of Rotary International. Jim was known for his compassion and concern for the people with whom he came in contact. His understanding and wise counsel endeared him to family and friends alike. The example of his life was a Christian witness of the servant spirit. He was beloved by many. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Byrd Henry of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth H. and William B. Keeler of Chesapeake, Diana H. Holden of Richmond, Cynthia S. Henry of Colonial Heights; two grandchildren, Gregory and Johanna M. Keeler; a sister, Anne H. Brugh of Covington. A memorial service will be conducted March 27, 1993 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chesterfield Chapel (3050 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, Va.) of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, by Dr. Elmer S. West, retired minister from the Baptist Mission Board. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetic Foundation or the Petersburg Public Forum.
