DON'T REINVENT; REIN IN GOVERNMENT

PRESIDENT Clinton and Vice President Gore have asked us to call a hot-line to report government waste and/or to send suggestions to the White House about "reinventing government."

Our government doesn't need "reinventing," but does need to stop spending.

Americans must realize that the House of Representatives can put a stop to virtually any government program because the Constitution stipulates, "All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House . . . " If a majority of House members refuses to fund any federal programs, there's nothing the Senate or the president can do about it.

I would like to publicly thank my congressman, Bob Goodlatte, for his recent votes to cut government spending.

Congress is the key to reducing the deficit. Pay attention to their votes, and let them know you expect them to vote for lower taxes and less government. NANCY M. KAMWELL TROUTVILLE
