Roanoke law firm names 2 senior attorneys

NEIL V. BIRKHOFF and ELIZABETH K. DILLON have been named senior attorneys with Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove, a Roanoke-based law firm.

With the firm since 1987, Birkhoff practices in the United States Claims Court and the United State Tax Court. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia, his law degree from the College of William and Mary and a master's degree in tax law from George Washington University.

Dillon has been a member of the litigation section of the firm since 1986. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Lenoir-Rhyne College and a law degree from Wake Forest University.

Woods, Rogers also said\ WAYNE O.S. HAIG,\ ABIGAIL L. PERKINS and\ MATTHEW P. PRITTS have joined the firm as associates. Haig earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a law degree from the University of Virginia. Perkins is a graduate of James Madison University and the College of William and Mary Law School. Pritts received a bachelor's degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and a law degree from Washington and Lee University. CHILD CARE

Hollins College President\ JANE MARGARET O'BRIEN has been selected to join the American Council on Education's Commission on Women in Higher Education. She will provide counsel to the Office of Women in Higher Education and to the American Council on Education on policies related to women in higher education, assist with the evaluation of programs, suggest new programs and advise on any other matters that concern the provisions of equal opportunity for women. \ JOE BOWMAN has been promoted to manager of the Martinsville office of VCE Inc., a Nashville, Tenn.-based speciality engineering firm providing pre-blast surveys, seismic monitoring, seismograph sales and service and forensic engineering. He formerly worked in VCE's Knoxville, Tenn., office as a field service technician.

\ CLARKE W. GIBSON of Roanoke has passed the professional engineering examination and has been licensed to practice engineering in Virginia. He is a civil engineer with Froehling & Robertson in Roanoke.

\ JAMES M. FARSON, Roanoke marketing manager, has been promoted to associate at Finkbeiner, Pettis & Strout, an engineering firm with offices in Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio and Michigan. HOSPITALITY

\ WILLIAM R. PERSINGER has been named banquet manager by the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel in Roanoke. He will supervise the hotel's in-house catering operation for meetings, conventions and social events. INSURANCE

\ TERRY HAMMAN has been appointed manager of the Roanoke branch office of Erie Insurance Group. He will manager 55 employees and oversee the Waynesboro claims office. An employee since 1984, he most recently worked as sales manager of the Roanoke office. LAW

\ L.B. CHANDLER JR. has been recognized as a certified specialist in professional negligence and product liability by the American Board of Professional Attorneys. He is a senior partner of the law firm of Chandler, Franklin & O'Bryan, which is based in Charlottesville and has offices in Roanoke. MEDICINE

\ JANN L. HOLWICK, M.D. has joined the medical staff of Alleghany Regional Hospital as a general surgeon. She previously was president of the medical staff of St. Luke Hospital in Pasadena, Calif. She received her medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine and completed her surgical internship and residency at Los Angeles County Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. \ SUSAN ANDERSON-HODGES has been appointed director of customer services for Roanoke Gas Co. and its subsidiaries, Bluefield Gas and Highland Propane. She will oversee all customer service functions, including billing and credit inquiries, collections, new service requests and service calls. She also will be responsible for HeatShare, the company's fuel assistance program.
