CAPITAL SUPPORT OFFICIAL CHOSEN AT VIRGINIA TECH

Mike Carroll, development director for athletic programs at Virginia Tech for more than four years, Saturday was named director of capital support for the university.

Carroll, who has been an athletic fund-raiser at four schools, last year was selected by his peers as national athletic fund-raiser of the year.

Starting April 16, Carroll will coordinate major gift activities for the entire Virginia Tech campus, according to Barrett Carson, associate vice president for development. The university said it will begin a search for his successor immediately.

Carroll, 38, led a recent Second Century Campaign which raised $18.6 million for intercollegiate athletic programs, surpassing its goal by $1.6 million. He also led the Virginia Athletic Fund to record contributions of $4 million last year.

He graduated from North Carolina State University and raised funds for East Carolina University, Centenary College and the University of California at Irvine before moving to Virginia Tech in 1988. His father, Warren Carroll, was executive director of the Wolfpack Club at N.C. State from 1958 to 1976.
