CREMINS' STATEMENT

Text of the statement issued Saturday by Bobby Cremins through his agent, Richard Howell:

I made a mistake and this is the most embarrassing moment of my life. The South Carolina welcome reception and press conference was beyond belief. But during the next 48 hours, all I could think about were my Tech players and the Tech program. I felt I had broken my promise and had deserted them. Everything I preached to them about, I went against.

I promised to be at Tech through their careers and again, I just couldn't get it out of my mind. I couldn't do my work and I couldn't sleep. The embarrassment I caused Dr. Palms, Mike McGee, Coach McGuire, the South Carolina players and fans and my South Carolina friends will live with me forever.

As I expected the South Carolina people were great. The program needs some rebuilding and I hope and pray somebody good will come soon. It is a great opportunity and there are many outstanding young players from the state of South Carolina.

My strong interest in South Carolina had a lot to do with Mike McGee's leadership and commitment. You can see his results already. I feel Mike and Dr. Palms would have made sure I had everything I needed. But truthfully, my love and commitment to Georgia Tech, my love for my family, and my feelings for my players are why I feel I must stay at Georgia Tech.

South Carolina will be my last consideration and I hope to end my career at Georgia Tech.

Words cannot truly express my feelings at this time.
