Olin Armentrout, a farmer who is on the county Board of Supervisors, said the snow and rain that left the area around the new building in mud could not dim the prospect of having the test facility here for cattle breeders from Virginia and other nearby states.
Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce President Herb Cooley said a number of Wythe Countians were unaware that the county even had such a test station. When he told her about the dedication he would be attending, he joked, she said "You're going where to do what?"
"It's a significant day in Virginia," said Ike Eller, professor emeritus at Virginia Tech in the Department of Animal Science. "In my opinion, it's a significant day in the whole region . . . We've got something here that we think will go for many years and will be of great service."
He said the station, dating back to 1980 in smaller quarters, meant a lot to the region's cattle industry.
