RAPHINE MAN IS SHOT, KILLED AT I-81 TRUCK STOP

A Raphine man died early Sunday after being shot at a Rockbridge County truck stop by a man police described as an acquaintance.

Wayne Harris, 44, died at Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington from shots allegedly fired by Blair William Eakin at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, police said. The incident occurred at White's Truck Stop beside Interstate 81 in Raphine.

Eakin, age unknown, was arrested around 4:15 p.m. Sunday in Fairfield and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Bond was denied.

"Yes, they knew each other," Rockbridge Sheriff R.W. Day said. He would not say how many times Harris had been shot or what prompted the shooting. When asked where Eakin lived, Day said, "probably Fairfield."
