WHAT'S THE BEEF ON HIRING PRACTICES?

REGARDING the article by Joel Turner in the Roanoke Times and World-News, headlined, "Black gains small - city hiring efforts yielding tiny results":

It is well-known the goal of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to have black employment by the city meet the percentage of blacks in the city's population. It appears the goal has been reached with the percentage of blacks at 24 percent in the city and a 24.1 percent black employment. I cannot see where the beef is here.

The NAACP is looking a little foolish, and this newspaper even more so, for putting this article on the front page with headlines, because this is not news. It's just more of the same old stuff, and most citizens here can put two and two together and come up with four. BETTE N. GILLESPIE ROANOKE
