TEXAS FIREPOWER IS AWESOME

WE AS citizens surely enjoy a privilege to bear arms to protect our own life and property. Likewise, at a certain point in the growth and expansion of America, firearms were needed. Virginia, it is hoped, will be a leader in helping us all to understand the difference between a privilege and a right, under our Constitution.

In Texas, it was reported on March 9 that there are as many as 68 million guns, and, on the average, there are four firearms for every one resident. We have always known that America, compared with other nations, has more violent deaths attributed to firearms, but the amount of guns in Texas is awesome.

The American public needs more direction and emphasis from the guardians of tranquility rather than from the guardians of firepower. HAROLD P. WILLIAMS JR. MARTINSVILLE
